Keeping at-risk people safe

Every carer, checked properly — before they're trusted with an at-risk person.

Children, disabled adults and older people depend on whoever walks through the door being who they say they are, and safe to be there. FIDES verifies every carer and keeps one reference record shared across aged care, childcare and disability support, so a worker dismissed in one sector can't start clean in another.

01 — The gap we close

Right now, "checked" doesn't mean anything specific.

They choose their own referees

A worker lists the people who'll speak well of them. The employer with concerns is simply left off.

They resign before it's finished

When a worker leaves mid-way through a concern, the matter often closes with them and nothing is written down.

They switch sectors

Aged care, childcare and disability support each keep their own records. A worker dismissed in one can start clean in another.

Warnings stay off the record

Informal warnings and concerns live in a manager's memory, not in anything the next employer can see.

A clean check isn't a clean history

Police and Ministry of Justice checks only show what reached the justice system. Most workplace concerns never do.

Families hiring directly are on their own

A private employer can't request a Police vet and has no way to hear from a carer's past employers.

02 — How we close it

One verified identity. One record that travels with it.

No one gets to leave a referee off

References come from the worker's verified employment history, and every employer on it is asked. Any organisation or family that engaged them can add one too.

Leaving doesn't erase it

If employment ended while a matter was under review, the referee records that with the date. The worker can reply.

One record across all three sectors

The same verified record follows a worker across aged care, childcare and disability support.

Documented facts, not phone calls

Every answer is marked as documented or informal. Concerns go to human review, and the worker has a right of reply.

References sit alongside checks

A reference shows what happened at work, which a criminal record check never will.

Families get the same view as any provider

A family hiring directly sees exactly what a registered care organisation sees.
