For families

You shouldn't need to be an agency to know who's coming into your home.

When you hire a carer yourself — for a child, a parent, or a disabled family member — you can't request a Police vet, and you have no way to hear from the carer's past employers. FIDES gives you the same view any provider gets.

The same checks a care agency gets

You get the same tools as a registered care organisation. There's no business number to provide, and nothing to set up.

See what past employers said

With the carer's permission, see how the families and organisations they've worked for answered our standard reference questions. You'll see the overall pattern, not a single comment.

Criminal record checks — coming soon

Once FIDES is registered with the Ministry of Justice, you'll be able to request a criminal record check on a carer, with their consent. We handle the consent form and request for you. A Ministry of Justice criminal record check is not an NZ Police vet. On its own it doesn't meet the Children's Act 2014 safety-check requirements for children's workers.

Pass on what you've learned

If a carer has worked for you, answer the same short reference questions an organisation would. The next family gets the benefit of your experience.

How it will work when we open

  1. 01

    Create a free account

Just your name and contact details. No business registration needed.

  2. 02

    Find the carer

Search by their legal name and date of birth. You'll find them if they've verified who they are and agreed to be on FIDES.

  3. 03

    Ask for their permission

The carer approves your request from their dashboard. With their yes and an active Hiring Pass, you can see their reference history.

What it costs

Creating an account and giving references are free. When you're hiring, a one-off Hiring Pass unlocks reference histories and checks, with the carer's permission. Full Verified profile views and individual checks are billed per item. Ministry of Justice checks aren't available to buy yet. See pricing.
